Life Song 2

With agitated presence,
he pursues the fleeing string,
but then, upon its capture,
Ennui to him brings.

Like a quicksilver shadow,
Satisfaction escapes the grasp
of everyman, who, despite this truth,
Wears it as a mask.

Freedom from his shackles,
Although they are mind-forged,
no easy feat accomplished,
Perhaps never will they be purged.

The greatest irony, however,
this call is never shunned,
We forever desire life,
liberty, and a treasure hunt.
