Autumn Chorale

Some, in the womb
are inexperienced gatherers,
clinging to the guardian
who keeps them from the ground.

Others, adolescent foliage,
embark upon their descent
to become swirling playmates
of the finch-fretted wind.

The eldest of these
form an innocent blanket for
the sleeping earth,
eventually joining the peaceful soil.
