Prevenient Dreams

Dream of Aeolian water,
confession, psalmist's Stabat Mater,

Dream of nets, writhing among
startingly articulated mesh,

Of fate, of Phlebas, inevitably
drowned, the wheel of time to windward,

A dream of motion, spiritual
arabesque of light, fantastic

Dreams of fire, while they last,
all-encompassing, consummation of lesser matters.

Of flesh, pleasing eye, and touch,
of corporeal form transcendently entwined.

And waking dreams of life inspired by love,
as tears of God condense upon my mind.
